Lavery's Bar
Lavery's has grown considerably since this painting was done. It used to be a pleasantly grotty student bar. It is slightly less grotty now, and there are not so many students ( they probably can't afford to go to the pub these days ).
Here's a funny story regarding this painting.
I was walking home from Lavery's one night. As I passed Tom Caldwell's gallery I saw two chaps looking in the window, where this painting was displayed at the time. They both had eye pupils the size of dinner plates.
One said to the other, "Look, man. There are "E"s in all the windows."
The other one said, "Wow, man! Awesome!"
I thought, "Wow, man!" myself. I had never noticed that before. EditRegion5 |
